BENEFITING: The Chadtough Foundation
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
I am very excited to be competing in my first (and probably last) IRONMAN Triathlon in Louisville, KY on October 9, 2016. I have decided this once-in-a-lifetime challenge is an opportunity to do something special and to raise research dollars and awareness for the ChadTough Foundation. The ChadTough Foundation was started by Jason and Tammi Carr in honor of their son Chad and his battle with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma). Chad earned his angel wings last November after a 15 month battle with DIPG, and his legacy continue to grow.
STATISTICS: - There is no cure for DIPG. It is the leading cause of death from brain tumors in children. - The avg survival rate from diagnosis is 9 months. Survival beyond 5 years is less then 1%. - Children are typically diagnosed between the ages of 5-10. 300-400 children are diagnosed per year in the US. - Only 4% of National Cancer Institutes budget is directed towards ALL pediatric cancers.
No child deserves this fate. No parents should ever have to live through such a nightmare and bury their child.
An IRONMAN Triathlon is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run... one of the most physically demanding challenges in sport. I have never attempted this event. Please help me contribute to finding a cure for pediatric brain cancer & DIPG!
Every dollar counts! You can donate any dollar amount at any time through October 31. I do not have a specific goal other than to finish under the cut-off. Lets get after it and help Chad's legacy continue to grow and defeat this monster!
