Rich and Sherry Fundraiser
Organized by: Ashley Simmons
Both of my parents worked through my childhood. Once I was a preteen, my mother began suffering from high blood pressure, and it soon became clear that she would have to quit the high stress, high paying job she was working. Both of my parents continued to work, struggling to make ends meet to support their family. In the later years of my life, just before leaving for college, things seemed to be looking up for them. They were buying their home, my mom was going back to school, and my father was working. Fast forward ten years and the strike of a recession, and now my parents are worse than they've ever been. My father lost his job due to medical problems that they are having a hard time diagnosing, and he can no longer claim unemployment. My mother has a Master's Degree and cannot find work. In August of last year, my parents lost their home. Since then, they have been living in a pop-up camper trailer, barely large enough for two people to sleep, let alone live comfortably in. My mom has applied to every position she can find and cannot find any work. Neither one of them knows that I am doing this, as they are too proud to ask for help, but as their daughter I cannot stand by and watch them struggle. I have to try to take care of them to the best of my ability. The money collected here would go towards paying their storage units to save their possessions and getting them back into a safe and secure living situation. It would also help pay their rent for a few months until my mom can find a job.
