Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
Running has become a extremely positive experience in my life. In the past year I have trained and completed several half marathons. Through running I have tested the strength of my mind and body. I achieved great confidence in setting and completing goals. My goal is to complete my first marathon and raise money for Wheeling Forward, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded to support those living with disabilities.
A friend of mine, Alex Elegudin, who graduated Hofstra Law School with me and is also quadriplegic founded Wheeling Forward, and has worked very hard to help disabled individuals achieve their goals, just as he was able to achieve his goal of becoming an attorney. Wheeling Forward's mission is is to provide guidance and resources to disabled individuals for the purpose of achieving goals today rather than tomorrow, with a focus on educational attainment, employment procurement, health and wellness, community integration, housing acquisition, and personal fulfillment. There is a grave misconception of the disabled community that living a meaningful life or achieving success is only defined by being “cured”. At Wheeling Forward, this line of thinking will never be accepted. Success should be measured by one’s personal fulfillment and Wheeling Forward strives to assist disabled individual’s attain that fulfillment by achieving their goals. Wheeling Forward is an all-volunteer organization and has a strong group of volunteers ready to promote its cause, ranging from accomplished disabled individuals to medical professionals.
Along with providing legal assistance to disabled persons in need, Wheeling Forward operates several programs, including the Wheeling Forward Scholarship Fund for Students with Disabilities, the Wheelchair Giving Program to provide means of mobility for those displaced in nursing homes, the Urban Outings meant to help recently disabled individuals reintegrate into the community, and more... Please help Wheeling Forward continue to promote its mission by making a donation that will go directly to supporting those living with disabilities. All donations are tax-deductible.
On November 4, 2012, I will run my first Marathon. Having the support and encouragement will make this run larger than a personal goal. I will be running to support those living with disabilities and I could not be more inspired. Thank you for all of your support, and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
