BENEFITING: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
EVENT DATE: Nov 07, 2015
In memory of Richard Navas and to help fight the disease he battled, I am raising money for American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I will be running the Bellingham Trail Half-Marathon on November 7, 2015. It's the perfect event - these are trails that I traveled numerous times with my lost friend. Help me fight blood cancer with a donation or join me, my wife Katrina, and Richard's wife Camille in the race on the trail!
It is estimated that over 150,000 people in the United States were diagnosed with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma last year alone. Unfortunately, about 55,350 are thought to have died from the disease, about six people every hour. However, survial rates have increased dramatically over the past 50 years. The five-year relative survival rate for leukemia has more than quadrupled since 1960 (American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society).
In March of this year, I lost one of my best friends not long after he was diagnosed with a very aggressive leukemia. Richard Navas was exceptionally kind, compassionate, curious and fun. He was a great man, a loving husband, brother, and friend. You could talk to or share anything with him. We lost Richard way, way too soon and I wish I could have done more to keep him with us.
In an effort to do my part to combat blood cancer, I am raising money for American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I will be running the Bellingham Trail half-marathon on November 7, 2015 with my wife Katrina and Richard's wife Camille. We've dubbed it the "Richard Navas Memorial Mountain Run". It's the perfect event to memorialize and meditate on our Richard - these are Chuckanut Mountain trails that he loved to hike and climb. Richard loved a good race, and would have been particularly excited about the 3600 feet of total climb over the 13.1 course.
Help me fight blood cancer with a donation that will be passed on to American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. If your interested in joining on the race course check out the race website http://www.bellinghamtrailmarathon.com/.
Be good to yourself!
