BENEFITING: BITE ME CANCER
Richard Raley’s Alaskan Adventure!
Follow along by reading his blog
This year’s Bite Me Cancer fundraising quest for Rich Raley takes him to Alaska, June 3rd through June 12th. There he will tackle an 1,885-mile ride from Anchorage to Prudhoe Bay riding a BMW 650 Sertao Dual Sport Adventure motorcycle through 60% paved roads and 40% dirt /gravel, this is no easy feat!!
This arduous ride is being achieved all in an effort to raise funds for The Bite Me Cancer Foundation, an organization that focuses on teenagers fighting all cancers, as well as research and awareness for thyroid cancer. The money raised will be used for research grants and hospital support for these young cancer patients. Thyroid cancer can affect men or women at any age, 2 in 3 cases are in people younger than 55, about 5% percent occur in children and teens. Thyroid cancer is the number one cancer in women ages 15-29 and the second most common (behind breast cancer) for women ages 30-39. It's been the fastest increasing cancer for both men and women over the last five years and is currently the 8th leading cancer.
Thyroid cancer has even been deemed as “The good cancer.” However, the founder of “Bite Me Cancer” Nicole Ferraro says, “The only good cancer is NO cancer!” Though the survival rates may be high, over the past 30 years, the incidences of thyroid cancer in the United States has tripled. While the prognosis for most thyroid cancer patients is good, the rate of recurrence can be up to 30%, and recurrences can occur even decades after the initial diagnosis. Despite these increasing numbers, research is severely underfunded and therefore underdeveloped. This is where YOU can make a difference! Your support can help make more research possible!
At the age of 17, Rich Raley’s daughter Madeleine was diagnosed with Papillary thyroid cancer. Through Madeleine's experience, Rich has observed the lack of research that goes into this disease and finding a cure. For a cancer so “easy” to fix, it certainly hasn’t been an easy experience for their family. After having a successful fundraiser for Bite Me Cancer on his last adventure he decided to increase the intensity of the ride in an effort to increase the donations raised!!! Our goal is to reach $10,000.00, doubling our funds from Rich’s last adventure!
Pledge today to make a difference!! Together we can help Bite Me Cancer in their efforts to beat thyroid cancer!!!! Please consider pledging 5 to 10 cents per mile to Rich’s 1,885-mile Alaskan Adventure! We want to stress that ANY offering will help! No amount is too small, no amount is too great, and everything you give goes directly to helping Bite Me Cancer in their fight against thyroid cancer! (Please note that every dollar donated goes DIRECTLY to the Bite Me Cancer! Foundation. Rich funds his own adventures 100% so no part of your donation goes towards his ride)
Every donation brings us one step closer to a cure!! Let’s join forces and make a difference today!!
