BENEFITING: Stop Soldier Suicide
EVENT DATE: Jul 27, 2014
Every day 22+ Veterans and 1 Active Duty Soldier take their own lives. Burdened with the stigma associated with mental health issues and the military “shame” surrounding PTS (Post Traumatic Stress), they instead turn to suicide as their only option to relieve suffering.
I am participating in Ironman Lake Placid. This is my 5th Ironman and the previous 4 I have done for personal reasons. I am dedicating and fundraising this Ironman for our nation's veteran and active duty military men and women. For those of who are not familiar with an Ironman, it is a triathlon with the following distances: 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a marathon. In addition, I will be wearing a backpack filled with 23 pounds of sand during the marathon to symbolize the 23 active and veteran soldiers who take their lives everyday. With your support, I hope we can lighten the load for our military men and women who have given so much and taken so little.
