Rick's fight with cancer and diabetes.
Organized by: Steve Howell
This is to help my brother Rick with medical bills. Rick is 61 years old and has limited financial means. He was unable to afford the several hundred dollars a month that insurance companies wanted for insurance so he only had a catastophic policy. He has been paying on this policy for almost 30 years only to find out that it only pays about $1,200. That won't cover much at all. Rick was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and diabetes on Dec 18th. He had been going to see a doctor for several weeks but the doctor had no idea of what was wrong. He was sent to the Emergency Room to get a EKG done for the doctor and they drew blood and sent him on an ambulance ride to Baylor Cancer Hospital. He spent Christmas hooked up to several IV pumps and has been there since. He was diagonsed with AML, diabetes and very anemic. He has gone through chemo and several bone marrow biopsies. He is now on insulin also. Medical bills are mounting and he will have to have a bone marrow transplant at some point. That is if we can find a way to pay for it. Rick doesn't have insurance that covers this. He can get a policy through the Affordable Care Act that will keep him from having to pay the tax penalty for not having insurance, but they don't pay for any of the major treatments. This hospital and doctor are not in network. Even if he could get a policy that paid some of this it would cost several hundred a month and with deductibles run $15,000 to $25,000 out of pocket a year. He was self employed but won't be able to go back to work for several months. Rick really need our help, both financially and in prayer.
