BENEFITING: FIELD COURSE FOR REMOTE MEDICAL SERVICE
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2011
Hokay so here’s the deal. This November I will be embarking on a journey from Chicago across India via plane, train, and auto- rickshaw. This trip will be under the auspice of the Rally for Health banner. What is Rally for Health you ask? This will be a mobile medical auto rickshaw rally that pairs healthcare providers from the US with providers from India. Part Cannonball Run part Doctors without Borders we will travel together as teams driving & navigating across India in one of its finest modes of unreliable & slow transportation - the classic three wheeled auto rickshaw. Why? Well why not!
The route will take us through rural towns, desert villages, the slums of Mumbai, and the narrow allies of New Delhi where we will be providing free health clinics for severely underserved populations. Invoking Sally Struthers, as with all things charitable, we need your donations. For those who are interested where your money goes, the break-down is as follows: one third of the donations will go to the cost of the rally (rickshaw repairs, medical supplies, etc) and the remaining two-thirds will be split evenly between two nonprofit NGO’s (Cross Cultural Care and Doctors for You). These organizations plan to use 100% of your donations to help run a rural village clinic near Bareilly, India as well purchase a microscope, provide dietary supplements for malnourished children, and train local community health care workers in an inner city clinic in the slums of Mumbai.
You may be asking, “How much is all of this going to cost me”? The answer my friend is not how much, but how little. My modest goal is to raise 5,000 dollars by November and ideally the first 1,000 by the end of August. Any donations you can spare will help whether it’s a dollar or a thousand and any overages or money not used for the rally costs will go directly to the NGO’s. I will be providing my own travel expenses as well as food, lodging, etc so your money can go to where it is needed the most.
So I hope all of you all can open your hearts (and wallets) and dig deep to help this noble cause. All donations are tax deductible for those who care about that sort of thing, and all donors will be kept appraised of the goings on along the route. And lastly you will all of course receive that warm fuzzy feeling of doing an act of kindness free of charge!
