When I was 14 years old, a proper Lyme diagnosis and antibiotic treatment saved my life. Although I have mostly recovered, I continue to struggle with lingering symptoms from Lyme disease.
Today, 30 years later, I find my story is the same for countless others. Lyme disease is an illness that is easily misdiagnosed as the symptoms are similar to other diseases. Inaccurate testing methods and lack of public awareness prevent afflicted individuals from getting the early treatment that would fully cure the disease.
Sharing my story with others, I quickly learned I was not alone in my experiences. Determined to help others avoid the challenges I and so many others have had with Lyme disease, I founded Project Lyme, a nonprofit organization, in 2015 to bring awareness and education about Lyme disease prevention, detection and treatment to the public on a national scale.
Together, we can create a dialogue that makes Lyme disease awareness commonplace. Thank you for joining the fight against this devastating, and preventable, disease.
