The 16th Annual Tour de Troit, set for September 16, 2017, is a bike ride that explores some of the city's historic areas, takes in many of its most breathtaking sights, and provides bicyclists a unique opportunity to legally “take over” the streets of Motown. Join Cass Community Social Services as we ride to raise money for employment for our Green Industries programs. Cass began creating jobs for people with significant barriers to employment during the recession of 2007. The agency created Green Industries as a means to link employment with sustainability and to use sales to pay for the new positions. Currently 85 adults have jobs with Green Industries which produces: Mud Mats, Detroit Treads and Hanging Planters from illegally dumped tires, Coaster Sets utilizing re-purposed wood from demolished houses and glass scraps from a Guardian Glass business, and Shredded Materials through our document destruction program. Organizations pay us to pick up and destroy their paper, cardboard, and x-rays. We then sell the unidentifiable materials to a Wisconsin paper mill which uses them to make new products.
