Change a Life, Ride Cambodia is Computershare’s signature charitable event that starts with fundraising efforts and donations for Sunrise Children’s Villages and ends with participating Computershare employees cycling through the villages of Cambodia to see the impact of Change a Life first hand.
Computershare's Change a Life initiative funds projects that address poverty and empower communities to effect change around the world. Our mission is to provide care, protection, education, and development for Cambodian children through center-based approaches.
Ride Cambodia 2014 fundraising will be invested in infrastructure, resources, and operations of the Computershare Sunrise 3 — Sihanoukville orphanage and clinic that care for children with HIV/AIDS. This will provide a full range of additional medical and dental care to help these children live long and healthy lives. donations, corporate contributions and fundraising programs.
Since 2006, Computershare's Change a Life initiative has raised over 5 million dollars from company-matched employee donations, shareholder dividend donations, corporate contributions and fundraising programs.
The Cambodian children who are cared for by one of the three Sunrise Children Villages in Cambodia come in a myriad of ways:
Parents or other family members may have been killed or maimed by land-mines , died of hunger, or disease.
An estimated 80,000 orphans and vulnerable children are living in Cambodia due to AIDS epidemic.
Over 1/3 of the Cambodia population live below the poverty line, many familes can't affort the basic necessities they need to care for their children.
When these children are rendered homeless, the villagers sometimes make every effort to care for them, but more often than not, they are taken into homes and used as slave-labour in return for food and a place to sleep until their plight is brought to the attention of Sunrise.
As of 2012, Sunrise Children's Villages and Programs have aided 400 Cambodian children and employed over 100 full and part time Cambodians.
The total goal is to raise $500,000 for Sunrise Cambodia by 2016 through the Change a Life, Ride Cambodia Initiative. My goal is to raise $5,000 from now to 2014. For anything raised from $2,500 will be matched by Computershare!
