In February 2012, at the ripe old age of 50, I was diagnosed with stomach cancer...Dr. Hawkins removed my stomach, I lost 34 lbs and learned to eat again.
In January of 2013, I learned I have Lynch Syndrome...a gene mutation that increases my risk of certain cancers- colon, breast, stomach, kidney, endometrial, skin and brain.
In April, just after celebrating my First Birthday Cancer Free I was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, left kidney...out it comes along with all my "girlie parts" as a preventative measure.
Enter June 2014...oh yeah...CT scan shows a "suspicious spot" on my right kidney AND basal cell carcinoma on the bridge of my nose...oh boy!!
Dr. Hawkins (and Washington University) has quite a collection of my body parts... and we need answers to keep fighting this fight for everyone.
I've hosted a competitive trail ride (with horses), had Eat Out for Cancer Nights and thought this sounded like a cool opportunity to continue helping research...Giving Up My Birthday for Cancer Research 2014!!!!!
