It's hard to believe that 5 years have passed since the tragedy at the Sugarland concert at the Indiana State Fair. Maggie is doing amazing these days thanks to strangers in the crowd, who have since become friends and the treatment she received at Riley's Children's Hospital !!! Since the accident Maggie & our family have tried to participate in as many Riley's fundraisers as we can. Maggie has been part of the IU Dance Marathon since back in 2011, where to our surprise, she gets on stage and sings in front of a huge crowd of people every year. Throughout those weekends, Riley's kids and their parents tell "their stories" of struggles and triumphs of being a Riley's kid. Many of them bring tears to your eyes. A huge part of what makes Riley's so special is the love and cheer they show these children. With that being said, this year Maggie has chosen to participate in an AmericanGirl Fashion Show that benefits the Riley Cheer Guild !!! She did this on her own............We happened to be at the store in Indianapolis and they handed her a flyer for auditions. We gladly signed her up and drove her down but she did the interview all on her own as we sat in another room !!! She made a commitment to be there for fittings as well rehearsals. She will be modeling in the 4th show, which will be held on Sunday November 13, 2016 at located at 502 East Event Centre, Carmel IN at 3:30pm. Tickets will go on sale the week of September 19th and are sold at www.eventbrite.com. In addition to modeling for the show, each child has been challenged to raise money for the kids at Riley's through the Riley Cheer Guild. The Riley Cheer Guild is a non-for-profit organization that supports Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health and the Simon Cancer Center. It's mission is to enhance the experience of a hospital stay for patients and families while in the hospitals they serve. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Riley Cheer Guild to support programming at the hospital. Such programming includes the Toy Room and Music Therapy. Your donations can provide : A blanket, a warm hate and an outfit for a baby. A game, markers, crayons and a stuffed animal for a preschooler. A doll, a jewelry kit, a journal and nail polish for a child. A lego kit, a superhero figure, a puzzle, and a blanket for a child. A CD, an ITunes gift card, a book or a video game for a teenager. A special birthday present for a child away from home on her birthday. A week of sessions with a specially trained music therapist to help pain, fear or sadness for children of all ages !!! One final note...........They are offering incentives for fundraising. If Maggie reaches her goal of $1000, she will receive her choice of an American Girl Doll & Book and she selflessly decided she will turn around and donate it back to Riley's so that maybe it will make a sick girl have a little better day !!! We are SOOO proud of her!!!
