It's been a while since Riley's last hospitalization but I wanted to say thank you to everyone that thought of her and donated. Love you all See More

THE STORY:

Update 04/14/2015: It's been a while since we have posted anything and I wanted everyone that has donated to know that we are eternally grateful for your support and love you all dearly.

Riley has been doing awesome, since the last series of antibiotics. She still has an active, but healing bone infection, called Osteomyelitis and her last blood work panel came back, favorable, which is better than bad. She starts school in August and while we are very excited, as is she, I can't help but be nervous after everything she's been through. So keep her in your thoughts :)

UPDATE 10/21/14: Riley was recently hospitalized again, for a week, due to her chronic osteomyelitis. Her inflammatory markers were elevated, she had X-rays, MRI and a bone marrow scrape/Biopsy. No active infection was found but Infectious disease prescribed antibiotics, just to be safe. Then, on 10/14/14, we took her to her doctors office for a bug bite that had become increasingly tender and her entire thigh was red, it apparently turned into a staph boil. Her inflammatory markers were highly elevated and she was prescribed antibiotics once again. She saw her infectious disease doctor this morning and was instructed to continue her antibiotics for 12 weeks and they obtained blood work, to review her inflammatory markers at this point in time.

In February of 2014, Riley was hospitalized at Dell childrens hospital for a staph infection in her blood stream that was infecting multiple organs, with no source. After a week of tests including MRI,X-ray, bone scan and echocardiogram, 24 hour IV antibiotics and Tylenol for her ongoing fever, the doctors had no answers and she still wasn't improving.

She became septic and we spent the next few days in the icu. We were watching her vitals rapidly decline and weren't given a very positive prognosis. After a few days in the icu, they finally got her on the right combination if antibiotics and she started to improve. She had a PICC line placed and we were sent home. She received 24 hour IV antibiotic infusion for the next 4 weeks, with home health nurses coming to draw blood once a week.

Subsequent to her staph infection in her bloodstream, she developed osteomyelitis in her left tibia, myofasciatis in her hips and buttocks and nodules of bacteria attached to her lungs. She began play therapy once a week, to help recover from the mental stress.
