BENEFITING: RIGHTS FOR ALL PEOPLE
EVENT DATE: Oct 17, 2013
Thanks to everyone who helped us meet our goal to match our $50,000 from Rose Community Foundation! We couldn't have done it without your help!
As we were working to meet our goal by the end of 2013, we heard from many of you that early in 2014 was a better time to give. We are still working to fundraise much of our budget, and although contributions after 1/1/2014 will no longer be matched, they are still integral to helping us grow our program this year. We are so appreciative of any contribution you can make!
Please note: All donations will go solely to support the work of RISE Colorado. Rights for All People is listed as the charity benefiitng from our fundraiser simply becasue they serve as our fiscal sponsor.
About RISE Colorado
Our mission is to educate, engage, and empower low income families and families of color to end educational inequity in our public school system.
RISE Colorado is founded on the belief that families are crucial to student and school success. Through knowledge building, leadership development, and organizing, our families will end educational inequity. They will become active leaders who have a voice and the tools to define, demand, and lead systemic change to transform our public schools.
Educate: We believe education precedes empowerment and action. To that end, we educate families to bridge the lack of access to information. Through our workshops families gain the aspirational and tangible tools to understand educational inequity and navigate the school system.
Engage: Families create and lead school coalitions that set the agenda to organize around issues that impact student achievement. They create the change they want to see and increase their power to act on behalf of themselves and their students.
Empower: Empowerment starts on day one. We develop families to become leaders that have a voice, and take action. RISE Colorado families will become key decision makers, vital to leading change in our public school system. Ultimately, families will ensure students most impacted by educational inequity make it to and through college.
Why RISE with us?
Students in low-income communities and communities of color are most impacted by educational inequity. While we have seen many innovative policies in recent years with a growing number of courageous champions behind them, we are not engaging those who have the biggest stake in student success—families. RISE Colorado is changing that by educating families on how to navigate the school system, engaging them to organize around the issues they believe will impact student achievement in their communities, and empowering them to lead the changes that will transform our public schools.
Let us know why you RISE with us in the comments section by finishing the statement "I RISE because...!"
About the Co-Founders
About the Co-Founders
Tangia Al-awaji Estrada, Milagros Barsallo, and Veronica Palmer have all grown up and worked in Colorado. Each of our identities as women of color plays a critical role in how we view the world and why we are creating RISE. We understand the importance of elevating the voices of low income communities and communities of color so families of students can pursue the changes they believe will transform our public schools. We feel it is our responsibility to form an organization that will do just this. We welcome support and resources from all people and we recognize the value in a wide array of opinions. We also believe that empowerment of low income communities and communities of color must be organic and spearheaded by people who are themselves members of low income communities and communities of color. Our organization emphasizes these ideals as we work to create and sustain the type of empowerment we want to see in our communities in Aurora, Colorado.
