RISE stands for Respect, Integrity, Self-determination and Education. The mission of our project is to take a holistic approach to close the achievement gap by ensuring that disconnected students, students who are unlikely to graduate high school or go on to higher education, are better prepared and more equipped with support systems to be successful. To meet this end, we help students develop their own sense of student identity to build the kind of confidence and self-esteem that is required to be successful in high school, college, and in life. We have found that once students believe the notion that they are “students” and that they can be successful, they pursue the assistance and the resources to build the academic skills required to be successful in education. Our aim is to meet this goal by creating student communities and mentorship programs.
