I will be running the New York City Marathon for the first time on Nov 2, back in the town where I grew up. For this race, I hope to raise $10,000 in donations for the Louis August Jonas Foundation (LAJF, www.lajf.org), a non profit, and I’d like to ask for your help in this effort.
When I was in high school, I spent two summers at Camp Rising Sun, an international scholarship camp that develop in promising teens from around the world a lifelong commitment to compassionate and responsible leadership for the betterment of their communities and the world. (www.risingsun.org) My experience at camp was life transforming, and shaped me in profound ways that made me the kind of person I am today.
Presently, I serve on LAJF’s Board, which sponsors the summer camp programs. I support LAJF financially and devote my time to ensure that other young men and women are able to get this experience at camp. LAJF provides scholarship because the youth may come from financially challenged families. Camp Rising Sun has operated for 85 years and greatly needs financial support to serve the next generation of young leaders.
I hope to run the marathon in 3 ½ hours. That will be a stretch goal. As a further challenge, I’d like to match your donation: for every minute that I exceed my targeted time, I will give an additional 1 % of your donation, e.g. if I finish in 4 hours (30 minutes more than my target), I will donate an extra 30% of your generous donation.
Thank you, my friend, for considering this. And when I cross the finish line, thank you on behalf of LAJF and the youths that will served by Camp Rising Sun.
