BENEFITING: CROOKED TRAILS
The Scholarship funds are a gift to Seniors of Browning High School, selected by traditional Blackfeet Elders, who have demonstrated an interest in the perpetuation of the Blackfeet language, customs and ceremonies, and have committed to attend an institution of higher learning.
The Rising Wolf Memorial Scholarship was created by the descendants of Hugh Monroe, who in 1815 at the age of 16, had the courage to leave the newly formed Hudson’s Bay Trading Post to live with the Blackfeet Tribe, in order to learn their language and create a better business relationship with the trading post. He would later be given the name Mahkuyi-opuahsin (Rising Wolf) and marry Sinopah (Kit Fox Woman), daughter of Chief Lone Walker, and all three have mountains named after them in the Two Medicine Lake area of Glacier National Park, Montana.
Crooked Trails is acting as the umbrella non-profit.
