On April 13th I will be running the RNR Raleigh marathon with my husband. As with every marathon I run I am taking on a fundraising event. For the one I am keeping the fundraiser local to a cause that inspires both my family and I. Jessica Ekstrom is an amazing North Carolina State University girl who started an incredible company known as Headbands of Hope. Her goal is to bring a smile to as many young girls across the country who are going through chemo and radiation therapy that has brought with it hair loss. How does she bring that smile? Simple. She sells beautiful headbands and for each one sold $1 goes to St. Baldrick's and a free headband gets given to a young girl who is coping with hair loss. Hey, and it is not only for girls. She also has Headwear of Hope for the boys. So for this marathon my goal is to raise as much money as possible and every penny will be going towards Headbands of Hope. This will allow Jessica and her crew to create a whole bunch of headbands or gear to give to young people across the country. My goal is to support an amazing local North Carolina inspiration and help her bring smiles to many. Help me by donating and dedicate a mile of my 26.2 to a family member, friend, or acquanitance you may know who has survived/fought/or been lost to cancer. I will be carrying their names with me on race day!! My goal is to give headbands/gear to as many as I can and hopefully come race day get a big PR/BQ.
