THE STORY:

I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2003 at the age of 12. I underwent 18 months of chemotherapy before the cancer relapsed and in September of 2004, I had a life saving bone marrow transplant. Over the next four years, I had a number of complications including necrosis of my joints. I was wheelchair bound for three years and underwent several surgeries including a hip replacement and bilateral knee replacements to untimely restore my mobility. Five and a half years after being diagnosed, I finally completed treatment and was able to move on with my life.

In 2008, I began attending Linfield College in McMinnville, OR majoring in Biology. I gradated in 2012 with honors and spent the following year doing cancer research while applying to medical school. I am now completing my first year of medical school at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. While at UCF, I have continued to pursue cancer research and most recently was awarded a prestigious research fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in pediatric oncology.

My career goal is to become a pediatric hematologist oncologist and give back to the community that has brought me to where I am today.

Thank you for supporting cancer survivors like myself and continuing to make our dreams come true.
