BENEFITING: Robin Hood
ORGANIZER: Robin Hood
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
As many of you know I will be running the NYC Marathon on November 2nd. This is my first marathon, and it's been a long 3+ months of training already. I don't think I would have gotten this far if I wasn't running for a cause I believe in - eliminating poverty in New York City. I can't wait for it to finally be November 2nd because I will be running 26+ miles for Robin Hood.
If you aren't familiar with Robin Hood Foundation I encourage you to visit their website. Robin Hood introduces R&D to fighting poverty by analyzing the programs in existence and selects the most effective organizations. The investments are measured based on how much the program is going to increase future earning and income.
One area I feel strongly about in Robin Hood's portfolio is education. Education is the best poverty-prevention method out there. Robin Hood supports superior schools—public, private and parochial—in the city’s poorest neighborhoods. These schools emphasize rigorous academics, dynamic leadership and utilize an extended-day and extended-year model. They also support programs that prevent students from falling behind, reinvigorate teaching and provide students with needed mental and social services.
You can read more about the Robin Hood Race Day Block Party and what a donation funds below. When I run over the bridge into the Bronx at Mile 20 & see the Robin Hood signs I will be reminded why I am going to keep running for 6 more miles!
Thank you for being Robin Hood!
For the past 7 years, more than 750 Robin Hood runners have crossed the finish line of the ING New York City Marathon. Along the way, these runners have raised nearly $5 million for Robin Hood, helping to feed, shelter and heal our neighbors in need, as well as equipping them with educational and employment opportunities to improve their lives.
This year 100 runners will participate in the marathon as part of Team Robin Hood. Together they will train and raise funds, 100% of which will go to help New Yorkers in need build better lives for themselves and their families.
On race day, November 2, we invite you to join Robin Hood staff, family and friends at our famous Mile-20 block party (just off the 6-train). Cheer your favorite runners on their final leg of the race while rocking out to a DJ! This big bash also includes a Jumbotron featuring all 45,000+ runners in their glory as they turn off the Willis Avenue Bridge, bleacher seating, Robin Hood t-shirts and cheer-stix.
Please help support these runners and their mission to fight poverty. You can make a donation in support of a particular runner or make a general donation in support of the entire Robin Hood team. Look what your support can help do for the city of New York:
