IT'S GO TIME!
This will be my third NYC Marathon and my second with Robin Hood. For those of you who know me well, Marathon Day is one of, if not my most, favorite day of the year and there was something extra special running with Robin Hood last year.
Running through all 5 boroughs of NYC, a place I like to call home, is extraordinary in itself. But running with a team who is fully committed and bettering this city and it's impoverished step by step makes the marathon extra special. Along the route are numerous Robin Hood sponsored/funded school, libraries, businesses and the like all striving to better the people of NYC to build a stronger and better NYC.
I wore my headphones during the marathon last year, but forgetting to turn my Ipod on at the start, failed to fix this and wound up running nearly the entire race (until mile 24) without anything but the roar and cheers of the crowd- all strangers encouraging me and Robin Hood. I was elated! I nearly cried at mile 19 passing into the Bronx and just a few second later was several feet in the air when I reached the Robin Hood Mile 20 Fan Section! (see pictures).
Please, help me help NYC!!!
A little more about Robin Hood...
For the past 7 years, more than 750 Robin Hood runners have crossed the finish line of the TCS New York City Marathon. Along the way, these runners have raised nearly $5 million for Robin Hood, helping to feed, shelter and heal our neighbors in need, as well as equipping them with educational and employment opportunities to improve their lives.
This year 100 runners will participate in the marathon as part of Team Robin Hood. Together they will train and raise funds, 100% of which will go to help New Yorkers in need build better lives for themselves and their families.
On race day, November 2, we invite you to join Robin Hood staff, family and friends at our famous Mile-20 block party (just off the 6-train). Cheer your favorite runners on their final leg of the race while rocking out to a DJ!
Please help support these runners and their mission to fight poverty. You can make a donation in support of a particular runner or make a general donation in support of the entire Robin Hood team. Look what your support can help do for the city of New York:
