BENEFITING: Robin Hood
ORGANIZER: Robin Hood
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2015
Friends, after years of being too intimidated, I’ve signed up to run the 2015 TCS NYC Marathon for Robin Hood. Here’s why I’ve committed and why I’m asking for your help to see me through to the finish line.
I’m running as a tribute to my step-brother Jeremy Barna who we lost earlier this year suddenly and far too soon. Jeremy was someone who had a lot of love in his heart: his capacity for caring was immense. He was a fan of many things – never shied from having an opinion, fiercely loyal, always encouraging. Jeremy was proud that I work for Robin Hood, a place that fights inequality and has compassion for those in need. I’m inspired to run to honor him, his generous, caring spirit, and raise funds that will create life-changing opportunities for struggling New Yorkers.
In NYC a person’s path is practically predetermined by what zip code they are born into and poor New Yorkers drown under the consequences of disadvantages and mistakes. This is unacceptable when effective interventions exist. Robin Hood finds and funds the most effective poverty fighting programs in NYC.
Please help me reach my goal of $5,000. 100% of your gift goes directly to help New Yorkers in need. If you donate $100+ you can add a song to my race day mix. $250+ and I’ll write your name on my race day outfit. $500+ and I’ll dedicate a long run to you.
Every dollar matters. For example, collectively our support could: send two students to a high performing charter school for a year, or provide a year of therapy for a child with developmental delays, or feed a family of four for six months, or connect three unemployed veterans to jobs. We can transform lives. It makes me happy to honor Jeremy in this way.
On race day, November 1, I hope you’ll join Robin Hood, and the Team’s family and friends at Mile 20 in the Bronx to cheer us all on. Thank you, truly.
