After my kids were grown, I wanted to give back and help the children in my community, first through the Kiwanis Club of Lake Norman, and then through MUSICALMINDS NC.
It started when a Kiwanis Club member showed a news clip from the 60 MINUTES NEWS SHOW on El Sistema and the power of music to change lives, and it stole my heart. It was very clear to me that we could do this...that we could help bring about social change using music as the tool, thus improving school performance, strengthening families, and benefiting the community at large.
It also excited me that by working with these kids two hours a day after school and four days a week, we would offer a unique experience that couldn't help but be one of the most beneficial programs ever for children!
We immediately started a committee to start up an "el Sistema-inspired program", and it has grown into a separate nonprofit (501c3) with one site currently operating and more being planned with your help.
In addition to our video, you may want to watch the 60 MINUTES video that inspired me and other members of our board and volunteer family! http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/el-sistema/
It takes a village... we would appreciate your donation, large or small, to supporting and growing MUSICALMINDS NC.
