Please join Avery and me in supporting A Better Chance In Darien's capital campaign at the Boston Marathon on April 21st.
ABC In Darien (http://abcdarien.org), founded in 1981 as an affiliate of the national organization of A Better Chance, is self-managed - receiving no financial support from the national organization. ABC In Darien provides talented girls of color from underserved areas a top-notch high school education in preparation for college by attending Darien High School and living in Darien.
A Better Chance In Darien has set out to provide a long-term housing solution allowing it to expand accomodations to increase the number of scholars in the program and its resident directors. After receiving a remarkably generous gift along with donations from its Board, it has purchased a home at 103 Tokeneke Road, and is now reaching out to the community to raise capital to help renovate its new home and secure the future of this great organization.
After finishing last year's Boston Marathon, Avery and I met up and walked to the safety of our hotel just minutes before (and steps away from) the bomb blasts. The horrific events that day reminded us of our good fortune, and what really matters in life. When we learned that I had the chance to return to Boston this year, Avery and I agreed that we would try to make it count. It is humbling to think that all I need to do is run a bunch of miles. ABC in Darien changes lives.
Thank you in advance for considering this worthy cause.
