BENEFITING: Robyn Gianni Foundation
ORGANIZER: Robyn Gianni Foundation
EVENT DATE: Dec 01, 2015
As a tour company operating within East Africa it's important to stay as true to our mission statement as possible and help support the work of non-profits within East Africa who are making a difference for wildlife.
On #GivingTuesday the most charitable day of the year we are encouraging you to give what you can in support of the work the Robyn Gianni Foundation is doing in East Africa and specifically in her home area of the Maasai Mara.
Currently there are 1.6 billion people in the world without access to electricity and sub sahara Africa suffers the greatest need. In June of this year Capture Africa Tours participated in Robyn’s “Lighting Up The Night” program where we were able to distribute sustainable solar lanterns the communities surrounding the Maasai Mara who have no access to clean lighting.
Capture Africa Tours also recently donated solar powered predator deflecting lights to protect lions from encroaching on the same surrounding communities.
These inexpensive solar lights can help put an end to the increasingly alarming human/wildlife conflict that are effecting the vast conservation areas of Kenya and Tanzania.
The number of lions in the wild is steadily decreasing. In just 20 years, Africa’s lion population has decreased almost 50%.
One of the main causes is the alarming rate at which they are losing their habitats due to expanding human populations and the resulting growth of agriculture, settlements, and roads.
Due to habitat loss, lions are being forced to seek habitat close to humans. This, coupled with a decrease in their natural prey, causes lions to attack livestock. In turn, farmers, oftentimes, retaliate and kill lions.
On #GivingTuesday just a $20 donation to our fundraiser can purchase (1) solar powered Nite Guard or (1) Solar Puff lantern, helping to protect the lions of the Maasai Mara and offer support to the communities who share their home.
Capture Africa Tours will continue to support organizations with tours to Africa that preserve wildlife, the land, and people of Africa.
