BENEFITING: Planned Parenthood Global Inc
I'm running a combination of 10 Rock n Roll half/full marathons in 2017. In doing so, I'm raising money for Planned Parenthood.
A little bit about Planned Parenthood:
Planned Parenthood delivers vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to millions of women, men, and young people worldwide. Their health care professionals are dedicated to offering all people high-quality, affordable medical care. They operate over 650 health centers across the United States. No one is turned away based on their inability to pay for services.
These health centers provide a wide range of safe, reliable health care — and the majority is preventive, primary care, which helps prevent unintended pregnancies through contraception, reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections through testing and treatment, and screen for cervical and other cancers.
Why Planned Parenthood is important to me:
For about 10 years of my uninsured adult life, I have personally been a patient of Planned Parenthood. They've helped provide me with multiple cervical biopsies when my annual health checkups uncovered precancerous lesions. I would not have been able to afford these procedures out of pocket without their assistance and care. Year over year, they've provided me with well woman checkups, birth control medication management, screened for infections, and evaluated me for partner abuse and mood disorders. They did this regardless of my ability to pay, where I lived, and if I walked in or made an appointment. Their nurse practitioners, doctors, and medical assistants were kind and forthcoming, and never judgmental when providing me with my options.
I am raising money for Planned Parenthood because they've helped me during the most emotionally and financially uncertain years of my life. I would not be here today as healthy as I am without Planned Parenthood's help. I want to ensure that they can continue to provide the support and care that other women, men, and young people need. Won't you help them too?
