EVENT DATE Oct 24, 2015
On June 19, 2014, Ashley Wiegele was a normal 17 year old Albion girl. She had recently attended her senior prom and was looking forward to walking across the stage to graduate . That night, everything changed when Ashley was in a serious boating accident that paralyzed her from the chest down. Ashley's injuries required her mom to become her full-time caregiver. As a single mom, this has meant a loss of income for the family. Their apartment in Albion is not designed for a wheelchair, which means Ashley's mobility is extremely limited. She spends most of her time in her bed. She only leaves the house for doctor's appointments, which requires calling for a special van to transport her. Instead of dreaming about walking across the stage to get her diploma, Ashley now dreams about getting out of the house just to visit a park, or a store, or just to take a drive. Therefore, her friends and community members are banding together to raise money for a wheelchair-accessible van for Ashley's family. Having a van will give Ashley some independence, allowing her to do things that other people take for granted, like grocery shop with her mom, or visit the library, or catch a movie with friends.
In addition to giving online, you can attend a fundraiser October 24 any time between 3 and 10 p.m. at the Albion Elk's Lodge, 428 West State Street in Albion. Along with great musical entertainment, there will be a giant basket raffle and pumpkin decorating for kids.
Solo performers Gregg Albertson and Shannon Vanderlaan will open the event, followed by several local bands including Cool Fusion, Delano Steele and Atomic Swamis.
Food will be available for purchase at the event. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or by calling (585) 944-0678.
