BENEFITING: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
Mental health affects us all, whether you know it or not. One in five people in the United States report that they struggle with some aspect of mental health, and that's just the people willing to admit it. Countless more are afraid to to say something, as they fear how the world may perceive them. AEPi Milwaukee’s brothers have experienced this personally this past year. We have helped each other in these hard times. We have shown parts of ourselves we thought nobody would ever see. When a brother felt hopeless and alone, we've been the first ones there. Not everyone has this support system. This hopelessness can become something much worse, and it can exasperate until death feels like the only answer. Suicide claims 42,000 American lives every year. One of AEPi’s 5 Pillars is mutual helpfulness, and we want to do everything in our power to help.
In honor of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, Ben Slowey is going to be rocking in a chair for 12 hours at UWM's Spaights Plaza to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. With every donation it becomes easier to fund interventions and train clinicians to save lives.
