BENEFITING: DOCTORS OF THE WORLD-USA INC
WHERE: The Doctors of the World Rockaways Free Clinic is located in the Rockaways sections of Queens, NY.
WHO: The vulnerable population in the Rockaways.
WHY: Vaccines save lives. Everyone should be able to see a doctor when and if they need to and having the proper vaccinations controls the spread of illness.
WHAT: Vaccines. Nearly all of our initial patients are in need of flu vaccines. Others need: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus and pneumovax.
HOW: A donation of $14 will allow us to give a patient a flu shot. Vaccine costs range from $14-93 per dose. Flu shots and other vaccines are especially important for vulnerable populations like the elderly, pregnant women, people suffering from chronic disease and others.
Please consider making a donation to support this important need today. This is a key piece to stocking the clinic and ensuring that we are providing the best preventive care possible.
Doctors of the World USA's initial efforts in the Rockaways were following Hurricane Sandy and centered on identifying local residents without access to healthcare and bringing volunteer doctors for home visits in the Rockaways. While deploying these services, the chronic deficit in healthcare infrastructure in the area has become evident and we decided to open the clinic in response to these needs.
The Rockaways Free Clinic offers free primary and preventive care services for all adults without medical insurance. You can see images of the clinic and the staff by viewing some of our recent press coverage on Al Jazeera America, NY 1 and CBS New York.
