BENEFITING: Jennifer Rubins Rockin 4 Relief Inc
On a daily basis, emergency responders such as police officers, firefighters, paramedics and EMT's risk their lives to protect the people of their community in which they serve. With all the negativity surrounding the media now a days in relation to policing, I thought I could shine some light on this darkness by accomplishing what I've done in the past, philanthropy. In the past four years, I've raised money for different organizations within a couple months of my annual half marathon for my father and brother who I lost during high school. This year, I picked Rockin' 4 Relief because of current situations within our society and I have countless friends and family members who have or are serving as emergency responders. This organization helps to support families of officers or firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice and killed in the line of duty. This idea to create the organization came about by a little girl who at 12 years old, knew she wanted to be a police officer. Since 2009, Rockin' 4 Relief has raised close to $110,000. How was a lot of this money raised? The answer is in the name. Volunteers rock in a rocking chair outside grocery stores, gas stations and other businesses for ten hours straight while accepting donations from donors. Now a college student, I had the privilege of meeting the founder as we both attend the same university. She reached out to me when I was fundraising for my last half marathon and truly inspired me by showing that I could do much more than I was accomplishing. By experiencing personal loss of family members at a young age and seeing close encounters of family friends who nearly lost their lives in the line of duty, my goal is to help out the families of those fallen heroes to the best of my ability as I know what it is like to lose an older brother or a father unexpectedly. Everything in life happens for a reason. But how we go about the troubles of adversity, it will make all the difference. Please help out the families of these fallen heroes by making a donation here. Thank you!
