I first met Dino at the 2014 Boston Marathon. I was running my 11th of 12 marathons in 12 months to raise awareness toward early detection and a cure for Pancreatic Cancer. After experiencing major fatigue and jaundice, my mother, Virginia, was diagnosed in the Summer of 2012. She was fortunate enough to receive the Whipple procedure.
Project Purple and I reunited at the New York City Marathon in 2014. (Thank you)Afterwards, the months became busy with increased medical care for Mom. Chemo treatment was stopped in September and we committed to hospice care in early February 2015.
Mom passed on May 1st, 2015 in her home. I vowed at her diagnosis, during, and now more than ever, to run for Pancreatic Cancer patients and their caregivers. It is devastating enough that this cancer is the FOURTH largest killer of all cancers and a single digit 5 year survival rate. What would be worse is if we elected to do nothing about it! So, here we are, fighting the fight, loving and supporting as best we can, and learning how to make greater strides toward a cure for Pancreatic Cancer!
Please join me and support in this journey, the Denver Marathon, to remember my Mother, and those battling Pancreatic Cancer-young and old.
