Rock The Rec
Organized by: Michelle Jackson
Rock The Rec is a curriculum based program dedicated to the education of our young african american boys and girls that will be offered in recreation centers across the United States. Malcolm X once said "Education is our passport to the future" in a time like now when it seems as if society has digressed, it's important for us to teach our children the things they aren't being taught in government run schools - black history and how to survive being black in America. Our curriculum will include... ○ Ancient African history ○ Black American History ○ Conflict resolution ○ Local and state laws ○Music and film ○ Beauty and more. Rock The Rec is an activity based curriculum that will include books, and field trips, the program will be offered during summer break free of charge and offer breakfast and lunch to grade school students around the US. Rock The Rec is a non profit program, the program is seeking $60,000 that will be used to purchase books and print/distribute the curriculum handbook and provide breakfast and lunch. Because our program is volunteer based we are seeking donations that will be put into a fund that will be available to each center to purchase needed supplies or fund field trips. Starting this fall parents will be able to enroll their children into the program at their local schools, recreation centers, or libraries. We need volunteers, if you would like to sign up please send an email including a cover letter and brief paragraph about yourself. -Cover letter should include contact information as well as the local school district your currently live in. - Volunteers will be subject to background and drug checks.
