EVENT DATE: Sep 29, 2015
Rod Lew: On September 24, I will be combining two of my favorite passions: raising funds for APPEAL, the non-profit organization I started 20 years ago, and reaching my personal goal of doing a 30-mile backpack trip in the High Sierras. To help support APPEAL and bring attention to the harmful impact of tobacco, unhealthy eating and sedentary lifestyles, I will be spending five days in Desolation Wilderness backpacking, mostly above alpine with a total elevation climb of nearly 8000 feet. I’m lucky to have a close family member, Colin, joining me on this high alpine adventure.
Colin Chin: I want to embark on this backpacking excursion into the Californian wilderness to support my Uncle Rod and help fundraise for his organization, APPEAL. He has been a key supporting figure in my life and I think it is time for me to try and help support him back. I am looking forward to this trip and hope that this will draw attention and support from my friends and family.
Please help us reach our goal to raise $3000 by September 23. If we can get 60 family, friends and APPEAL partners to each donate $50, we will have reached our goal although any donation amount would be greatly appreciated.
APPEAL is a national, non-profit organization working towards healthy, active and tobacco-free communities including Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders and other priority populations. Your donation will help us continue our education and advocacy activities, including building leadership among young and emerging leaders on social justice.
We are very thankful for the support we have received over the years. Your additional support now will allow us to continue to carry out APPEAL’s mission, reduce tobacco use and obesity, and extend the lives of those we love.
