EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon

I am running on behalf of the Rodman Ride for Kids charity which is an umbrella matching gift charity raising funds for youth-focused social service agencies that support at-risk children throughout Massachusetts. Since it's inception in 1991, the foundation has been able to support infants, children, adolescents, and teens that face a myriad of challenges. Programs supported by the Ride offer psychological, behavioral, and cognitive support. They offer opportunities to participate in sports, arts and music where they may not have access to otherwise. They foster early literacy and high school students with the college application process. They provide entertainment and respite for seriously ill children and their families. They are community-based, site-based, and residential. They help stop the cycle of homelessness. They provide quality schooling, tutoring, and educational support.
Most of all, the money raised will help the Ride reach new goals and impact more children in our community to live as we would want our own kids to live by giving them opportunities to succeed, thrive and become effective citizens of society. I've become involved with the Ride because growing up in Boston, I've met and interacted with peers of the same age group who I could tell did not have the same resources of education and activity as I may have been fortunate with. I met a number of foster children who would tell stories of the homes they moved to as I would help them with their homework. I empathized that they were not in stable homes, or had access to the same resources as other children in their homes. Although the Ride may not necessarily direct all of their funds towards foster children, they do help children of all ages in Massachusetts who face a number of challenges.
The Boston Marathon holds a special place in my heart as I've watched the race every year. I admire the strength, resilience, and endurance it takes to complete such a race. In more recent years, I've been able to hang out around Mile 26 with my friends and we witnessed the elite athletes zoom to the finish line and cheer on all of the other amazing runners. We were even a block away from the bombings in 2013 from which we felt the shock of the devastation in more ways than one. I want to help fight back for our city and for all of the brave runners and first responders who risked their lives for others. Although running is a newer sport for me, I'm dedicated and it's taken me places I never thought I'd see (like running marathons!). Your support is what motivates and inspires me, but most importantly knowing that you are able to help me do something so positive for at-risk children in Massachusetts is something to really smile about :) Every bit helps, and I will even match 10% of each donation up to the first $5,000. I will also raffle off a 16GB second generation iPad Mini: every $50 donated will guarantee an entry for the prize!
