Rodney's Battle against Diabetes
Organized by: Brenda Mazon
Rodney Smail is a 52 year old man who has a lot of life left to live. He is a veteran and was an EMT and Firefighter for over 20 years. Rodney has Type II Diabetes and is fighting many complications of this disease. He is currently in UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh with a non-healing wound on his foot that suddenly became infected and needed exploratory surgery. In the past 5 years Rodney has had many complications from Diabetes while trying to get the disease under control. He was legally blind for almost a year due to bleeding behind his eyes. Physicians were able to save his vision, but he still has trouble seeing at night and has had to have injections behind his Rt eye. In November he had to have Emergency Gallbladder surgery. Rodney has been dealing with this non-healing wound on his foot for almost 8 months. The wound was getting smaller when it suddenly got infected and the infection spread to the bones in his foot. Rodney currently works for the Caring Mission doing home health care. He has lost many hours of work due to his medical problems. Rodney loves helping other people and enjoyed his many years as an EMT and Firefighter. Helping other people is part of who he is. Anyone who knows him , knows how big his heart is! Right now he is struggling physically, spiritually and financially. This fund is being set up to off-set Medical Bills and Living expenses . Anyone who has uncontrolled Diabetes knows how serious the complications can be! Thank you taking the time to read this message and to consider helping a man who spent much of his life helping others.
