BENEFITING: KAYLA MILLETTE MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
Those who know me know that I've had the pleasure of working with kids by volunteering for the past 25 years as a coach, board member, and on several recreation related committees. It is through these activities that I had the good fortune of meeting the Millette family. I'm sad to say that I never met Kayla, a beautiful, vibrant, funloving little girl who was taken from her family by an insidious childhood disease far too young at only 5 years old.
I first learned of Kayla's story a few years ago when I took part in a 5K race to benefit The Kayla Millette Memorial Foundation, which is a loving memorial in the spirit of Kayla, aiming to promote community, and provide support for children with life threatening illnesses and their families. It's truly a grass roots effort, supported in large part by Kayla's family and friends. Kayla's spirit and joy for life are evident in the tireless work that Mom Kerry and Dad Craig continue to do, all while raising Kayla's twin sister Ava and older brother Ty. Whether running their now annual Kisses 4 Kayla Family Fun Day, delivering care packages to sick kids at hospitals, or volunteering in support of community recreation projects, Kerry always has an unceasing, contagious smile and positive attitude.
I'm training to run my second Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) Half Marathon to raise awareness of Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis in Kayla's memory. My intent is to raise funds, 100% of which will go to the Kayla Millette Memorial Foundation, to further the foundation's philanthropy and support Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis research.

The money we were able to raise last year far surpassed my original goal. It went to both Histiocytosis research and care packages that were sent to children's homes and the hospital. Younger children were sent "make your own" stuffed animal buddies to make and love while they were going through difficult treatments. Older pediatric patients were offered a Google Play or iTunes gift cards with a small goodie bag.
If you'd prefer not to donate online, checks can be made out to Kayla Millette Memorial Foundation (acct # 3617) and sent directly to Santander Bank 335 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540. Please note Roger's Run in the memo.
All donors will receive a tote bag with various coupons from local businesses that have been supporters of Kayla's Foundation. Donations of $75 or more will also receive a Kayla water bottle and other swag.
Thank you for your support,
