THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT
July 14, 2017
Hello! As many of you know, I am a cultural worker and community organizer who likes to rap. I've been working on my 1st official solo project release in the midst of a lot of intersecting movement work in Seattle and everwhere. This work is definitely urgent and needs to happen. I also know that music, especially from those of us who are not often heard from, is an important contribution to shifting culture and making people feel loved and connected. We must value the labor of artists and cultural workers and see it as essential to building our power.
I have been making music, creating spaces for womxn, trans and non-binary artists, as well as performing for almost a decade, while sustaining myself as continue to grow as an artist and organizer. I am grateful for so many people who have supported me in this path.
This last year, I took time to write and record as I was going through major life transitions, which ultimately saved my life. To my surprise, I ended up with a full tapestry of songs of love created with two very talented producers-- one is Paper Son (Chris Woon-Chen), who crafted all the beats and the other is singer/ songwriter Richard Arcelo, who did arrangements and is featured in the album. This project is called "The Things We Carry" and it is dedicated to so many peope, near and far, who I hold dear to my heart.
I have been self-financing this project so far, but I have artistic standards as well as paying my people standards, and I'm learning that the independent hustle is not cheap. We are very close to being done with the project and need your help to complete and release the album. I would like to pay people for studio time (at a homie discount), mixing and mastering and working on the visual and media aspect of the release. We are also hoping to raise extra funds to support Richard Arcelo, who is a youth organizer and cultural worker, in stabilizing and maintaining his health.
These are hard times. We are making music to survive. This project is a testament to how we must love and hold each other. Regardless of whether or not you are able to give, I know I wouldn't be able to do this without you in my life. Thank you all so much for all you do in this world.
"Our love become the force that will break free of these bars."
