Rwkhosh's Fighting Cancer Fundraiser
Organized by: Christopher Johannes
EVENT DATE Dec 25, 2014
Rwkohosh is the mother of Shan and will be the recipient of any funds raised in this endeavor. Rwkohosh and her family have not asked for any assistance, despite the political and hostile situation currently in her homeland.
She is Kurdish with Iraqi nationality, where she teaches in primary school. She is the mother of three children and has fought for Kurdish rights since the 1970s. She is also a writer and painter and has written a book chronicling and interviewing the survivors of Saddam Hussein's 1988 gas attacks in Halabja, Iraq.
Rwkohosh was diagnosed with breast and bone cancer in May 2014. Since early June, she has been in Germany for her medical care, which requires diagnosis via scans, lab tests, x-rays and doctor visits. She and her family has paid at least $80,000 on medical costs, in addition to travel, visa, housing and food costs.
She has already had many laser treatments and a surgery. Rwkohosh will need chemotherapy, but doctors are waiting until Spring 2015, so her bones have time to strengthen. Because of a lack of cancer drugs in Iraq, she will have to apply for another EU visa to receive chemotherapy in Germany.
This charity is to help her financially with that process. Christmas is rapidly approaching and like many Kurds, celebrating Christmas is a family tradition for Rokhosh. Any financial support that we are able to provide to her family would be gratefully appreciated.
