BENEFITING: Bridging The Gap, Inc.
Bridging The Gap is Kansas City's leading environmental non-profit. Last year we received a contract to start the metro's first water conservation project, WaterWorks! We've put in 400 rain barrels around KC and saved more than 25 million gallons this year with low flow devices.
Our WaterWorks! Project Manager recently returned from an annual trip to Kenya to visit family. Conserving rainwater is essential to his friends and family to use for drinking water where they live in Nyakach, Nyanza Province. Traditionally, a large nearby river was a source of drinking water, but this has recently been dammed to create HydroElectric power. Rainwater is now more important than ever!
On a recent trip he intended on installing a large rain barrel for his aunt to use for drinking water. Upon his arrival, he quickly realized it would not be that easy. Her roof, and his 2 other family members roofs (who planned on sharing the barrel) were badly rusted. In order to supply them with clean drinking water, the roofs would all have to be replaced. The nearby church was also a great location for a community rain barrel; however, it had no roof at all!
After hearing his story at our last staff meeting, Bridging The Gap staff decided we needed to help, so we set up this page to try and raise money for his project. Any donation will help my friend get clean water to his family.
