BENEFITING: Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, Inc.
During the months of November through March, the streets of Memphis are cold and dangerous at night. Churches are empty, warm, and safe. Room in the Inn - Memphis organizes churches to open their doors to unsheltered persons in Memphis, TN. Host churches feed, fellowship and shelter up to 12 guests at a time and can sometimes also offer showers and clothes.
The name refers to the story in the Bible when Joseph and Mary arrive in Bethlehem ready to deliver the Christ child only to discover there was no room in the inn. Our hope is to help eradicate instances where our neighbors are in need of shelter and have no where to turn.
In an effort to grow our organization and become more of a recognizable presence, we have been offered a building in downtown Memphis by a local church. This building has not been used in a number of years and is in need of major TLC to become a place for Room in the Inn to better serve homeless guests. We need to fix plumbing, repair HVAC, clean up A LOT and outfit the building for use...not to mention paying monthly utilities. Some of the donated funds will help ready the building for use, while other donations will be used to help us serve those in need (think homeless person released from the hospital with no where to stay or one of our guests finally gets a job but needs to buy steel toe boots to work). Utimately, any donation toward this worthy endeavor will help us to reach more unsheltered people and love on them.
Room in the Inn has received 501c3 status! However, for the time being, the funds will go to a designated account within the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis. As the funds are needed for outreach, the Foundation will pass them through to us.
Thank you for your donation! And share this with your friends, co-workers, church members, and perfect strangers!!!
