BENEFITING: ROOMS FOR CHANGE
Hello friends & family!
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read this and support our service project through Rooms for Change. We are a team of 5 students enrolled in a Management & Organizational Dynamics class at the University of San Francisco. On top of learning about the dynamics of organizations, this class gives small teams the opportunity to give back to the community in different ways. The project we chose is with an amazing organization that has changed the lives of so many young adults, by giving them the gift of a beautiful and comfortable place to call home. Rooms for Change was founded by Karon Fields after 25+ years being a social worker.
So what is Rooms for Change?
Founded in 2006, Rooms for Change is a nonprofit agency created to ensure youth leaving the foster care system in the Bay Area are afforded the opportunity to live in a home environment that supports their well being and which ultimately improves the quality of their lives. To assist young people in their transition from foster youth to inter-independent young adults. Rooms for Change provides free interior design services and free furniture. Working with agencies providing housing services for youth, Rooms for Change coordinates the services of corporate retailers and interior design professionals to create comfortable living spaces based on each youth’s personality and needs.
Basically, the idea behind this organization is to decorate a young adults home, in hopes that it will add to their well-being, confidence and overall happiness after they exit the foster care system. This cause struck home for all of us, especially after we heard how so many young kids coming out of the system have no where to go, and if they do, it’s usually not a place where they enjoy being.
Our project is to raise $5,000, which will go towards the purchase of furniture and materials in an effort to give our client, who just exited the foster system, the comfortable home they have always dreamed of. We will ask the client what their style and favorite colors are, and then on November 22, we will be complete the renovation as a team.
We sincerely appreciate any amount of a donation you can offer. Every bit helps and will improve the life of a very deserving and aspirational young adult.
