THE STORY:

Hi there! Welcome to this fundraising effort for the Pfeiffer Center interns. I am a eurythmist in the local community that supports the Pfeiffer Center, and I also work in the Pfeiffer Center "office" as a graphic artist. I only say "office" because everyone knows the the real office is down the hill in the Pfeiffer Center Garden -- that's where all the biodynamic magic happens!

The fact that the garden is at the heart of the community is part of the reason why I love the Pfeiffer Center and think that it's unique internship prgram is so important. I walk through the Pfeiffer Center Garden every day on my way to work or eurythmy rehearsal, and I am always looking forward to seeing what the interns might be up to: Are they garden planning in the shed? Working with the horses? Or teaching local students how to harvest? I love it when they are knee-deep pitching compost, and once I came by when they had barrels full of rutabagas to sell at the farmstand. I am inspired daily by the beauty and tangible vitality of the garden, and particularly by the joy and enthusiasm that the interns bring to the commmunity through their work.

Because of the care and deep attention that is given to the cultivation of the earth through biodynamics, the food that is grown by these methods is not only delicious and abundantly nutritious, but, in a certain way you could say it was also happy -- whole-hearted and happy.

In the times we live in it is becoming evident that there is a deep ecological call for our society as a whole to become responsible and loving stewards of the earth -- particularly in our methods and approach to agriculture. The Pfeiffer Center here in Chestnut Ridge, NY is the first piece of biodynamically farmed land in the United States, and its internship prorgam is one of only three comprehensive trainings in this country. With the above in mind, your donation to help keep this invaluable program going is also an investment in fostering a differnet kind of future.

So, what does the Pfeiffer Center need to keep their internship program going? As a whole, the Pfeiffer Center is trying to raise $30,000 by the end of December in order to fund their 2014 program. Since I personally have friends in the internship program, and work with Pfeiffer Center folks everday, I really want to generate support this campaign.

I have created the Rootabaga Rally team for the Pfeiffer Center, and I hope to be able to rally at least a $1,000 for the Internship Program in the next three weeks! Everyone's support - large or small - will help the us get there, so don't wait until its too late -- join the fun(d)raising party today :))!!!!

Sincerely,

~Virginia Hermann

ps: Never had a rutabaga? They are quite delicious, and a very versatile root vegetable. Here is a great Thanksgiving recipe to try instead of, or in addition to, mashed potatoes:

Sour Cream & Dill Mashed Rutabaga
