BENEFITING: ROOT & REBOUND
This year, Root & Rebound produced and published Roadmap to Reentry, a legal guide that provides comprehensive guidance on barriers in reentry across nine areas of law and life. To expand the use and impact of the guide, we conducted statewide trainings, ran a reentry legal hotline, and pushed for system reform. We use this model because we realize that, for the thousands of people in reentry coming home from prison and jail, we must break away from the traditional one-to-one client-attorney model to address the “justice gap” that exists in California and across the country.
In 2016, we need your support to expand our work. We plan to print and disseminate more guides, run many more trainings and develop web-based education, build a pro bono base of support for our hotline and legal clinics, and grow our policy reform work. In addition, we plan to create the first-ever toolkits designed for families and their incarcerated loved ones, based on the Roadmap to Reentry material. The family & loved ones toolkits will include extensive and accessible step-by-step information on when and how things need to happen throughout the reentry process, with both print and online material.
