Roots Coop provides housing and common ownership opportunities for activists from several affinity groups in St. Louis, MO. Our mission is to manifest Black and Brown self-determination through common ownership, community collaboration, and radicalized solidarity. Our Core Values are: ROOTS Resistance • Organizing •Ownership •Transformation • Solidarity One of the most basic needs for Black and Brown activists has been cost of living expenses. Roots CoOp is an innovative common ownership model of sustainability that addresses this need. Specifically, we are a collective of Black and Brown activists who have purchased a home on the North Side of St. Louis and transformed it into a housing cooperative.
The Roots Co-op has had a busy and bustling last couple of months! Most of you are familiar with some of the work we've been up to including but not limited to political eucation events, being a hub for the Sanders campaighn, to our community food distribution program and more. Recently, we've undergone a tranistion in the Co-op-two of our original members moved out due to personal reasons and we also gained a new member! While we've been doing our best to make our financial situation work out we've ran into a wall with the loss of two room mates who were living within our biggest living space. This fundraiser is a way for us to continue and even revamp the work we've been doing while also helping us to cover our missing financial gap until we find the perfect new candidates for the Co-Op! It will be very simialar to our last fundraiser-we'll have plenty of food, drinks, and good ambiance to go around. All that we ask of you to make whatever donation is most feasible for you and prepare to have a great night while supporting a great cause. We have a goal of raising $1,000 and appreciate whatever you can make it happen. If you can't physically make the event you can still support us by making an online contribution.
