Rorick Runs for NECA
Organized by: Laura Rorick
Event Name: SoNo Half Marathon / 5K
EVENT DATE Oct 17, 2015
My name is Laura Rorick and I am a teacher at the Norwalk Early College Academy, housed at Norwalk High School. This is my fourth half-marathon and I am excited to race to raise funds for a program I care so much about! Please donate to support our students!
Norwalk Early College Academy is the first Connecticut program based on the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) model, which combines the best of high school, college and the professional world.
By connecting high school, college, and the world of work through college and industry partnerships, we are pioneering a new vision for college and career readiness and success.
NECA is a high school plus two years, grades 9 to 14. Within this six-year timeframe, students earn not only a high school diploma, but also an Associate in Applied Science degree, from Norwalk Community College.
Graduates will have the skills and experience to step into well-paying jobs in the Information Technology (IT) industry. There are 28 million middle skill jobs — those that require an associate degree or similar technical training — currently vacant in the U.S.
Students also receive IBM mentoring and internship opportunities to prepare them for college and competitive careers in information technology.
Whether designing and testing future products or analyzing defects in software and driving quality improvements for global customers, NECA graduates will be helping our world work better.
I can assure you of this as I witness the amazing accomplishments of these students every day!
My hope is to raise money to overcome budget constraints and ensure all students can fully take advantage of the many high school and college opportunities our unique program affords them.
I am running to raise money to cover costs associated with after school programs, transportation, college courses, textbooks, supplies, technology, industry site visits, job shadowing, service learning projects, and much more.
Please consider donating. No amount is too small. Thank you from all of us at NECA!!
