Naomi is the second born in a family of six children. Her parents are pastoralists and she spent her early life in Rumuruti, a 5 hour journey from the Daraja campus. In 2008 due to some violent tribal clashes, Naomi’s family had to flee the area. It was a very traumatic event that has influenced Naomi’s desire for education. She wants to be a lawyer because she believes in justice for all people.
Because of the tribal clashes, Naomi and her sister ended up in the same grade. When their 8th grade exam results were released, her older sister was given a scholarship to a local school, but Naomi had no hope of raising the school fees and had to put her dreams of education on the shelf for her older sister, that is until Daraja heard about her.
Naomi is a true Daraja girl and she can often be seen a foot above the rest with a huge smile on her face.
