On March 14, I'm participating in a fundraiser for 826nyc.org, a non-profit that supports students in NYC's public schools develop their writing skills.
The event is called Trivia for Cheaters and I need your help to cheat! and to help kids! and to make the world a better place!
Any amount you can contribute will go a long way for a worthy cause.
826NYC offers after school tutoring, field trips, workshops, and in-schools support for teachers and students ages 6-18 out of three locations in Park Slope, South Williamsburg and East Harlem.
I've been a fan of 826 since I discovered the Pirate Supply Store in San Francisco. Not only could I pick up an eye patch as needed, but I discovered great writing and even took a class for adults. In Brooklyn, I've volunteered as part of an after school program about entrepreneurship. The high school students I met there were amazing- I think I learned more from them than they did from me (especially about Snapchat :).
Many of the kids who participate in 826 programs come from underserved communities and ethnic and religious minorities, and classes and other programs help them find confidence in their voice.
What is more important in this day and age than developing the next generation of communicators, fact-finders and creative spirits?
Thank you for your support!
