BENEFITING: PHOENIX MULTISPORT
EVENT DATE: Aug 01, 2015
Phoenix Multisport fosters a supportive, physically active community for individuals who are recovering from alcohol and substance abuse and those who choose to live a sober life. Through such pursuits as climbing, hiking, running, swimming, road and mountain biking, and other activities, Phoenix Multisport seeks to help their members develop and maintain the emotional strength they need to stay sober.
This 6K Race has been put together by Foundations Recovery Network whose mission is to be the leader in evidence-based, integrated treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders through clinical services, education and research. The Heroes in Recovery movement started because according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 20 million people needed substance abuse treatment last year and did not receive it. About 10 million Americans did not receive needed mental healthcare. The stigma associated with substance abuse and mental health disorders creates a significant barrier to individuals and families seeking help.
It takes a heroic effort to live clean and sober each day, and a Heroes 6K celebrates that effort.
