BENEFITING: WAVES FOR DEVELOPMENT
EVENT DATE: May 23, 2016
From May 21-28, in just a few short weeks, I will be lucky enough to combine several of my favorite things: travel, surfing, and making a difference in people's lives. I will be supporting a non-profit called Waves for Development that launched their flagship 'surf voluntourism' program in a place called Lobitos, Peru. While in Lobitos I will have the opportunity to complement a number of ongoing community projects including offering English language classes for the locals, teaching kids to swim/surf, and helping construct an eco-skate park. For those of you who are Caravana Mexicana alums (I spent all 4 high school spring breaks traveling to Mexico to do various community service projects), the Waves for Development experience sounds similar but with surfing as a sidebar. Needless to say I am very excited about this opportunity and seek your support.
My goal is raise $1000 for Waves for Development to allow them to expand their programs so they can touch more people. Check out how they've helped families with sanitation and education programs and how they help build confidence with local youth so they believe they can do anything! That's the feeling I get when riding a wave and I hope to pass that on when I'm there.
Thank you for reading this, for your donation, and for spreading the word about Waves for Development. The Executive Director of Waves is also a fellow School for International Training alum so special shout out to former Brattleboro peeps! Mahalo, Ross
